Landbouwbelang

Aan de oever van de Maas in het Boschstraatkwartier waakt een grote metalen draak over de ingang van een oud graanpakhuis. Tot een aantal jaren geleden stond er in grote letters “Landbouwbelang” te lezen op de zijkant. Tegenwoordig is deze zijde van het gebouw ingepakt met een groot groen zeil om de afbrokkeling van de oude muren tegen te gaan. Binnen de met graffiti “bekladde” muren leeft in geuren en kleuren de culturele vrijplaats die eveneens het Landbouwbelang wordt genoemd.

Stichting 06 The Landbouwbelang, a known factor in Maastricht since 2002. It started as a squat and has become an institute when it comes to subculture and urban culture. The building is being used as a cultural freezone and incubator, a place for experimentation and a stepping stone for young talent. Throughout the years a lot of groups have been active in the Landbouwbelang. In 2015, after several incidents and two evictions of semi-permitted parties, we sat down with the mayor. This resulted in the establishment of Stichting 06 and the signing of a covenant with the local municipality. This covenant describes a number of things which made it possible for us to organise more things in our cultural freezone.
